ÚVALY LIBRARYWS 2023/2024
The library is founded on the concept of terraces. Thanks to that, the building responds to the steep terrain of the chosen land. It follows the garden and forms „a landscape in the interior“. The space of the library is open and enables a view through the entire library without any obstacles. This aspect is functional thanks to the atypical low bookshelves.
All terraces are connected with a long, slowly decreasing ramp. Thanks to the ramp, the library is completely barrier-free. People with a disability use the library just like people without a disability. In the library, there are spaces for different needs. Meditative and Lively spaces are created thanks to various heights of the interior terraces. Exterior terraces respond to the interior terraces. Terraces in the interior and the exterior.
The library in Úvaly is a meditative and inclusive space. The building itself isn’t meant to be eccentric. It is meant to be simple and straightforward.
The garden reacts to the interior system, however compared to the interior it isn’t so definite. That is enabled mainly thanks to the high grass which isn’t meant to be highly regulated. Area of the high grass in the garden enables, just like the elevated terraces in the interior, spaces which are meditative and calm.
